Description
Ocean Mist is a one hundred year old ship at Leith, just outside Edinburgh in Scotland. The Ocean Mist has an interesting history. Originally launched in 1919 as a minesweeper for the Royal Navy, named HMS Samuel Green, it was purchased in 1921 by the millionaire Kenelm Guinness of the Irish brewing company. He renamed the ship Ocean Rover and used it to ferry racing cars between Spain and Sicily. In 1924, Kenelm Guinness renamed the ship again as Aries and sailed it on a treasure hunting trip to the Indian Islands. The Guinness family renamed the ship back to Ocean Rover in 1928 and hosted many parties and trips for nobility including the Kimg of Greece. During the second world war, it was requisitioned back into the Royal Navy, before being bought by another wealthy owner from the Isle of Wight in 1954 and renamed again as the Ocean Mist.
After spending time with another owner from Fort William in Scotland, the ship eventually arrived in Leith Docks in 1987. She later became a cocktail bar and restaurant called Cruz, which closed in 2013. This photo was taken in 2016 and three years later the Ocean Mist was saved from dereliction and is now being restored to her former glory as a luxury floating hotel.
