Description
Long exposure colour photograph of the fountain geyser Strokkur at the Haukadalur geothermal area in Iceland. Strokkur is near the Hvita River and close to the larger more famous Geysir geyser. While Geysir only erupts a few times a day, Strokkur sends a fountain of hot water and steam up to 130ft high every 5 to 10 minutes.
This photo is actually a double exposure. To record the movement of the clouds took an exposure of 4 minutes, but the geyser eruption only lasts a few seconds and doesn't show on such a long exposure. Without moving my tripod, I waited until the next time the geyser erupted, took a second exposure of half a second to record the fountain and combined them later in Photoshop.
